FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – For the second night in a row, the Marian University men's hockey team fell victim to a late empty-net goal that led to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of MSOE, this time before a raucous crowd gathered to honor past and present members of the military inside the Blue Line Family Ice Center.

The Sabres (2-4, 2-4 NCHA) held their Second Annual "Military Appreciation Night" that drew nearly 600 fans and they were all brought to their feet when Marian sophomore Warren Carter tied the game at the 16:15 mark in the second period. MSOE's James Ring scored the game-winner at the 14:08 mark in the third before Omar Mullen secured an empty-net tally with 11 seconds remaining.

The Sabres outshot the Raiders (2-4, 2-4 NCHA) 25-19 on the night. MSOE goalie Nick Kohn made 24 saves in a winning effort, while Marian's Mike Baldwin stopped 16 shots in a hard-luck loss.

Brent Wilcox got the Raiders on the board at the 17:26 mark in the first period with a slapper over the left glove of Baldwin. Assists were credited to Gage Christianson and Logan Bauman.

Sabres finally got on the board with 3:45 remaining in the second when Carter scored his first of the season after being rewarded with a hard line to the goal to sneak it past Kohn. Jacob Ryd and Scott Milnthorp earned assists.

The game would remain tied until the 14:08 mark when Ring found the net on a rebound to put the Raiders up 2-1.

Then, in an effort to tie the game, the Sabres sent an extra man in place of Baldwin with 49 second left and gained several opportunities, but none that were able to get past Kohn.

Marian will have a good 10 days of rest before playing host to Aurora Nov. 26, at the Blue Line. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
