Box Score HANCOCK, Mich. (SabreAthletics.com) - The Marian University women's hockey team finished the weekend sweep at Finlandia University today, Nov. 15, as it continued to find offensive success over the Lion defense. Laurie started the scoring early, finishing off quick passes from teammates Amanda Siiro and Brittany Syms to put the Sabres on top by one.
The Sabres continued their offensive control in the second period. Paige Picard added to the lead with her first goal of the season on a scoring opportunity set up by Allyson Zachwieja. Opportunities continued to arise for the Sabres as Amanda Waigand found Laurie 5 minutes later for her second goal of the game.
Finlandia cut the lead to two early in the third when Brittany Coleman scored her first goal of the season off passes from Lindsey Jackman and Alena Fiala, but the Lions were unable to capitalize on the goal.
Amanda Alexander was back guarding net for the Sabres after sitting out the last two games and came back strong. Finlandia took 30 shots on the day, but only connected once as Alexander was all over the Lion attack.
Jessie Meluch got into the act with 10 minutes remaining, finding Ellie Deans who made a quick pass to Paige Johnson who sealed the deal.
Marian had complete control for the remainder of the game as Laurie and Waigand each scored in the final minutes to finish the Lions off. The Sabres took 35 shots on the day and had four different skaters score.
