Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (SabreAthletics.com) - The Marian University women's hockey team took on St. Scholastica, today, Nov. 1, for the second of two games on the weekend. After falling short, 4-1, the Sabres drop to 0-2 on the season.
Once again it was the Saints jumping out to an early lead when Abby Sawyer scored her second goal of the season off a pass from teammate Sami Anderson 11 minutes into the game. The Saints tacked on a second goal six minutes into the second when Sierra Hanowski scored her second of the season off two quick passes from Breanna Smith and Nina Waldacher.
Trailing by two, Amanda Waigand put the Sabres back in the game when she scored an unassisted goal on a power play opportunity five minutes into the third period.
The Sabres were unable to find the net the rest of the game and later gave up two goals to CSS's Waidacher for her third and fourth goals of the season.
St. Scholastica outshot the Sabres 54-17 on the day and had four power play opportunities compared to the Sabres' three.
The Sabres welcome conference opponent Adrian on Friday, Nov. 7, for the first of a two-game series against the Bulldogs for their home opener at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.
