Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - Stifling defense and a season-high 15 3-pointers made propelled the Marian University women's basketball team to a 73-28 rout of visiting Mount Mary College today, Nov. 22. The Sabres forced 41 turnovers en route to their second straight win to start the season.
Three Sabres reached double figures on the day led by Nicole Paulus and Becca Skurski who each totaled 14 points. The uptempo Sabre offense provided momentum, while the defense applied constant pressure.
The Sabres didn't waste any time to start as a 3-pointer from Brittany Bauman sparked a 16-0 run to start the game. A second 16-point run late in the first half put the game out of reach early, discouraging the Blue Angel offense. MMU committed 23 first-half turnovers, which led to a 35-point lead at halftime for the Sabres.
Four Marian three-pointers propelled the Sabre offense early in the second half, extending the lead to 43 and securing the win.
Mt. Mary competed tough all day, but the lack of bench depth and the youth of the team took a toll. Jasmine Meyer led the Blue Angels with 10 points on the day in 33 minutes of play. The Blue Angels had five players with over 30 minutes played.
The 2-0 start by the Sabres is the team's best since the 2011-12 season when the Sabres started with three straight wins. The Sabres travel to Ripon next Tuesday, Nov. 25, where they look to continue their streak. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Wyman Gymnasium.
