Box Score ST. PETER, Minn. (SabreAthletics.com) - Goals in each period helped guide the Marian University men's hockey team to a 3-1 win over St. Olaf (2-7) today, Nov. 29, for their second straight victory.
The Sabres were able to take an early lead when Brodie Jamieson finished off a pass from Thomas Nosella less than 5 minutes into game for his third goal of the season. St. Olaf senior Tim Tuscher evened the score up at one apiece shortly after, which is where the score stayed going into the second period.
The Sabres outshot the Oles 26-17 in the final two periods as they had constant control of the puck. Early in the second Rjay Berra put the Sabres back on top, finishing off passes from Jamieson and Brian Berger. A strong defensive effort limited opportunities for the Oles to help preserve the Sabre lead.
A late third-period goal was tacked on by freshman Hunter Stewart to put the Sabres up two with just over 5 minutes remaining in the game. The Oles got five shots off in the final minutes, but were unable to connect.
Mike Baldwin was solid in net for the Sabres in his fifth start of the season. The freshman stopped 27 shots on the day to pick up his third win.
It was a relatively clean match-up for both sides as only four power play opportunities were given on the day. Neither side was able to connect with the man advantage as the Sabres were able to outmatch the Oles at even-strength.
With the win, the Sabres improve to 4-4 on the year. They look to break the .500 mark for the first time this season tomorrow, Nov. 30, when they take on host Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. The Puck is set to drop at 7:05 p.m.
