Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) -- The Marian University women's hockey team played host to Adrian College today, Nov. 7, for the first of a two-game series over the weekend. It was a struggle from the start for the Sabres, as the Bulldogs grabbed an early lead and ran away with it, ultimately winning 7-1. The setback drops the Sabres to 0-3 on the season.
Adrian sophomore, Sarah Shureb, gave the Bulldogs an early lead when she scored her first goal of the season midway through the first period. The Bulldogs tacked on three goals in four minutes of the first to secure a 4-0 lead going into the second.
Penalties were a constant on the night as tension was high between both teams. It came back to haunt the Sabres as they allowed two power play goals on the night, including one in the second to fall behind by five. Adrian also had penalty issues with nine on the night, but the Sabres were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
Adrian's goalie, Jade Walsh had a strong performance, making 20 saves. After two periods of pitching a shutout, Marian's Sarah Bier scored her first goal of the season with eight minutes remaining to put the Sabres on the board.
The Bulldogs tacked on two goals in the final minutes to come away with their third win of the season. The Sabres will look to turn things around tomorrow when the two teams meet again at 4 p.m. at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac.
