Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University men's hockey team had the challenging task of traveling 8 hours to face the ninth-ranked team in the country and host Adrian took full advantage of playing on its home ice en route to a 6-0 win inside Arrington Ice Arena, this evening, Dec. 5.
Coming off two home losses to Neumann a week ago, the Bulldogs (9-2-0, 7-0-0 NCHA) had a lot to prove and came out with a vengeance, scoring twice in each period. Adrian goaltender Scott Shackell made 18 saves on the way to his sixth career save.
Adrian got on the board at the 11:27 mark at the first period on Kyle Brothers' eighth goal of the year. Blake Butzow made it 2-0 with 3:10 left before the first intermission to provide all the insurance Shackell needed.
The Bulldogs tallied second period goals at the 4:59 and 18:48 marks, while tacking on two more at the 7:07 and 8:09 marks of the third period.
Marian (5-5-0, 2-5-0 NCHA) managed just 18 shots on the night, including three in the final period.
Mike Gudmandson made 28 saves for the Sabres, including 10 in each of the first two periods, and fell to 3-3-0 on the year.
The Bulldogs finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play with Kevin Balas converting the tally with 1:12 left in the second period to make it 4-0. The Sabres went without a power play goal in four chances.
Both teams will conclude the weekend series tomorrow afternoon, Dec. 6., at 3 p.m. eastern time, 2 central.
