Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - With an odd Wednesday game in the mix for the Sabres this week, they hosted UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night at the Blue Line. Two second period goals created a gap that Marian couldn't recover from, as they fell 4-1.
Megan Nickelson got UW-Stevens Point on the board just over 5:30 minutes in, beating sophomore Ali Glazer on an assist from Hailey Rock. Marian responded, as junior Amanda Waigand was rewarded for her effective forecheck as a clearing attempt deflected off of her and fell to her feet. Waigand drove hard to the net and waited for Hillary Drake to make the first move and Waigand slotted it past her to tie the game at one.
The Pointers would break the game open in the second period, pummeling Glazer with 16 shots, and saw two of them hit twine. Emily Lester scored 2:47 into the second and added a second at 16:36 on the power play. Marian was outshot 16-4 in the period and was faced with a two-goal deficit heading into the third and final frame.
Despite testing Drake eight times, more than any of the previous two periods, the Sabres were unable to draw the game any closer, falling 4-1.
Marian will return to the Blue Line on Friday night as they host Lake Forest with puck drop set for 7 p.m. The Foresters are currently in second place in the NCHA and defeated Marian in both meetings so far this season.
