Box Score ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) - For the fourth time this season, Marian University and St. Norbert College met on the ice in women's hockey, and once again, St. Norbert came away victorious. The teams met in the opening round of the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs with St. Norbert advancing with a 7-0 win.
Hoping to turn the tides from their previous three meetings, the Sabres entered Saturday's playoff game playing the Green Knights on the road for the first time this season. In their three previous meetings this season, St. Norbert earned victories of 4-2, 4-0, and 3-1. With a good week of practice under their belt, Marian hoped to play the underdog role and sneak up on the Green Knights, but they would have no such luck.
St. Norbert jumped on Marian early with three goals in the first period. Jillian Kosteck opened the scoring at 4:14 and was soon joined by Ali Parker at 4:48. The Green Knights' third tally of the frame came off the stick of Lauren Roethlisberger at 16:45.
The Sabres were unable to capitalize on four St. Norbert penalties in the second period, resulting in a 3-0 Green Knight lead heading into the third.
Looking to put the game away, St. Norbert increased their lead to four at 2:43 of the third. The Green Knights would add three more goals over the final 13 minutes to close out Marian's season by a score of 7-0.
Marian finished the 2013-14 season with a 5-20-2 record and the program's first ever berth in the postseason. Surely, the Sabres have plenty to be proud of and will continue to improve heading into the next season.
