Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. (SabreAthletics.com) - The bats remained dormant on Sunday, March 16, as the Sabres could only scrape together three hits in two games, falling to Central and UW-Eau Claire.
In their opening game, Marian faced fourth-ranked Central College for the second time in as many days. This time around, the Dutch offense was cut in half from the day before, only scoring seven runs. However, Marian was held to a single hit for the second-straight game, resulting in the 7-0 loss.
The Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire were next for Marian and while the Sabres were able to keep it close for a majority of the game, a five-run sixth inning proved to be too much. In the first three innings, Marian loaded the bases with less than two outs on two different occasions. However, Marian was unable to capitalize on the opportunities, resulting in being shutout for the fifth-straight game.
Freshman Sara Terrian collected two of the three hits for Marian on the day, improving her batting average to .263.
Marian will hope to get the offense in motion on Monday as they face Denison College and UW-La Crosse. First pitch against Denison is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CDT.
