FOND DU LAC, WIS. (SabreAthletics.com) - After an exciting season opener for the Marian University women's tennis team where in Head Coach Marcus Wiegert's debut, the team was set back Saturday after dropping matches to Dominican University and Concordia University Chicago on the road, today, Aug. 30.
The day started out slow for the Sabres as they dropped all three doubles matches against Dominican.
The women had a bit more success in singles but still not enough to prevail. Melissa Spannbauer started for the Sabres losing in two sets. Samantha Austin, Jenny Gapinski, and Natalie Boyle each followed by getting the top scores for Marian on the day, yet still resulting in losses.
In Marian's second match, Concordia University Chicago came away with a 6-3 win. The Sabres garnered all three wins by default, forcing the Blue and White to look ahead to their next match, which will take place Fri., Sept. 5.
Marian will then return home to face Lawrence in a 4 p.m. contest at Buttermilk Creek Park in Fond du Lac.
