FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – The Marian University women's volleyball team was led by freshman setter Amber Baker, who tallied a double double-double with 29 assists and 24 digs, but it wasn't enough to upset visiting Maranatha Baptist University as the newly-dubbed Sabercats won in straight sets inside Sadoff Gymnasium, this evening, Sept. 18.

The Sabres (4-8) were flying across the floor on the defensive end with 81 digs in the match and two individuals with 20-plus digs apiece. However, the 'Cats (11-3) lived up to their stellar record, hitting .195 as a team, while providing a balanced attack at the offensive end.

Maranatha raced out to a big lead in the first set due to several Marian errors and won convincingly, 25-15. The Sabres committed 15 errors in all in the first set, while the 'Cats committed just 10 errors in the three sets combined.

Maranatha progressively improved offensively, going from a .111 hitting percentage in the first set to a .268 percentage in the final set.

Set number two saw the 'Cats hammer home 15 kills and, despite the Sabres roaring back to cut the deficit to 23-20, were able to finish off the set win by a score of 25-22.

The Sabres tried to mount a comeback in set number three with a 12-10 lead, but the 'Cats answered with a 10-2 run and proved too much to overcome.

Maranatha was led by Kelli Fox, who totaled 10 kills and 13 digs. Two ' Cats registered double-digit assists as Pam Borchardt dished out a team-high 11 and Emily Thompson 10.

Marian's Jessica Roberts tallied a match-high 13 kills on 39 swings. Jansen added 20 digs defensively to lead three Sabres in double figures.

The Blue and White will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 24, when it travels to Lake Forest College for a 7 p.m. start.
