Sabres Squander Early Lead to MSOE on the Road

Box Score

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (SabreAthletics.com) – An early lead for the Marian University men's soccer team was short-lived as MSOE stormed back with five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 win in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at Viets Field, today, Sept. 20.

Freshmen Alonso Fragoso and Israel Tovar Jr. teamed up to put the Sabres (3-4, 0-1 NACC) ahead just 9:09 into the match. However, two quick strikes by MSOE gave it a 2-1 lead less than five minutes later. The Raiders (6-2, 1-0 NACC) added three more in the second half to take the convincing victory.

In the 10', Fragoso tallied his third goal of the season after finishing a Tovar cross from five yards out to give the Sabres an early lead.

It wouldn't take long for the Raiders to find their offensive groove as Jorn Witte and Braden Andryk tallied their third goals of the season in the 12' and 14', respectively.

MSOE would take that 2-1 lead into halftime, but wouldn't be satisfied with the one goal advantage.

In the 48', Michael Skow scored his first goal of the year on a header off a free kick from Logan Andryk. Brock Shilling and Andryk each scored their fourth goals of the season in the 65' and 79', respectively.

Andryk, the reigning NACC Offensive Player of the Year, finally got into the scoring column with the game's final goal, but added two assists in the win as well.

Marian goalkeeper Bryce Woldt made 12 saves in the losing effort, while his counterpart Garrett Farin stopped 6-of-7 shots that came his way. MSOE outshot Marian, 27-10, in the win.

The Sabres will host Edgewood in their first conference home game of the season Tuesday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and live stats and video will be provided for the contest via SabreAthletics.com.
