Sabres Fall in Four At Lake Forest

Box Score

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (SabreAthletics.com) -- The Marian University women's volleyball team came ready to play today at Lake Forest, scoring 20 or more points in each set, but it wasn't enough to take down the Foresters. With a well-balanced attack, including a kill percentage of .159, the Foresters proved to be too much for the Sabres overcome, winning in four sets, today, Sept. 24.

Freshman Amber Baker had another impressive performance for the Sabres, scoring her second straight double-double, with 30 assists and 14 digs. As a team, the Sabres showed a defensive quickness, having 79 digs. However, the Sabres struggled with their attack, having just a .095 kill percentage.

The Sabres seemed to be well-matched with the Foresters, being able to keep the sets close and fight for every point. After losing the first set 25-20 and being outdone in kills 16-6, Marian was able to kick it up a notch in the second set. The Sabres totaled 21 more attacks than in the first set and were able to rack up 13 kills to out-duel the Foresters, 25-23.

It didn't take long for the Foresters to bounce back to early form, though, as they responded by winning two straight sets 25-20. Paige Jesperson had a star performance, leading the Foresters on the night with 19 kills and 14 attacks. She was one of three Foresters who ended the night with double-digit points.

The loss brings the Sabres to 4-9 overall this season, while the Foresters improve to 5-11. Marian looks to add some wins to the record column when they head to Milwaukee for the NACC-IIAC Challenge Sept. 26-27, where it will face Central (1 p.m.) and Simpson (5 p.m.).
