Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. (Sabreathletics.com) -- The Marian University men's soccer team tied the game early in the second half, but two unanswered goals by host Dominican propelled it to the 3-1 victory in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action, today, Sept. 27.
Dominican set out to hold it's home field advantage and, just over a minute into the game, Sherman Ali put the Stars on the board with a header off a corner kick. The Sabre defense held strong after the early goal, and kept it just a one score game going into the half.
Freshman playmaker Jeroham Duran put the Sabres back in the game early in the second half. Senior Danny Heerhold found Duran in the box off a cross and the freshman did the rest.
With the game tied, the Sabres looked to continue building their momentum, but the Stars thought differently. In the 62', Carmelo DiFranco found Carmelo Abate who ripped a shot from 20 yards to give the Stars the lead. The Stars then tacked on one more when Francisco Nava scored off a cross from Alejandre Neftall.
The Sabres fall to 3-6 on the year, 0-3 in the NACC. The team looks to rebound on Wednesday Oct. 1, when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran in another NACC matchup.
