WAUPUN, Wisconsin (SabreAthletics.com) - The Marian University women's hockey team snapped a six-game winless streak tonight, Jan. 10, with a 3-2 win over Hamline University at the Waupun Community Center in a non-conference matchup. 

Power play opportunities led to success on the night as each team found the back of the net with the skater advantage. The Sabres were able to score on two power play chances, including the game-winning goal by Nina Laurie with less than 10 minutes remaining. 

The Pipers were able to find early offensive success. Less than a minute into the game the Pipers were on the attack when Kendra Krause found an open Kelsey Rafferty who finished it off with her third goal of the season.

Halfway through the period the Sabres answered back with their first power play goal of the night. Nina Laurie started things off, finding Brittany Syms who dished it off to Amanda Waigand who tied the game at one.

After a scoreless second period things heated back up in the third. Just under two minutes into the period, Lauren Zachwieja hooked up with Emily Everson who put the Sabres on top with her third goal of the season. 

The Sabres didn't have much time to celebrate their lead. A tripping call on Waigand less than a minute later put the Pipers on the power play and it didn't take long for them to capitalize. After passing the puck through the Sabres defenders, it was the senior Jordan Verleye who was able to tie the game at 2-2. It didn't stay tied for long as soon after Laurie finished the Pipers off.

Ali Glazer started at goal for the Sabres, making 39 saves to gain her second win of the season.

The Sabres will look for the weekend sweep tomorrow when the two teams meet again, this time at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m.
