Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (SabresAthletics.Com) – It was Alumni Day inside Sadoff Gymnasium today, Jan. 31, for the Marian women's basketball team as the Sabres welcomed the Dominican Stars for a NACC showdown. The Sabres gave a strong defensive performance on the day to help them come away with a 73-52 win.

Defensively, the Sabres (12-8, 8-7 NACC) were successful in disrupting the Stars (1-19, 0-15 NACC)  rhythm as they committed 15 steals led by a game-high four from Sarah Olewinski. The Stars had issues controlling the ball as they finished with 27 turnovers.

Emma Jarvey had the Sabres hot hand, scoring a team-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Nicole Paulus was the team's threat beyond the arc, going 3-of-7 for three. The team as whole bounced back from last night's game against Edgewood, shooting 38.2 percent from the floor in the performance.

The Sabres were trailing by seven early in the contest before they went on an 18-to-2 run in a span of five minutes that put them up 24-15 with eight minutes remaining in the half. In the final eight minutes the Sabres outscored the Stars 17-10 to have a 16-point lead going into halftime. Dominican committed 17 of their 27 turnovers in the first half while Marian had nine steals.

Allie Tapanes heated up for the Stars in the second half, scoring 11 of her game-high 16 points, while finishing 3-of-4 from deep. As a team they improved their shooting to 40 percent, compared to Marian's 33.3 percent, but their ten second half turnovers left them with 11 less shots taken. The Stars were also hindered by poor free throw shooting on the night as they went 3-for-13 in the half and 13-for-27 on the night.

Marian scored 32 points in the second half, with Brittany Bauman and Jarvey each leading the way with seven points. Paulus once again made some clutch three-point shots to finish with six points in the half.

With the win the Sabres jump back on top of Edgewood to hold the sixth seed in the NACC. Next up for the Sabres is a key match-up against first place Wisconsin Lutheran in attempts to stay in favorable position of a playoff berth. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
