Box Score MOORHEAD, Minn. - The Marian University women's hockey team (3-6-0, 0-4-0 NCHA) used three unanswered goals to stop a five game skid and defeat Concordia Moorhead 3-1 in non-conference action.
The Cobbers opened the scoring in the first period at the 9:51 mark before Courtney Wittig netted her fifth goal of the season in the final minute to even the score at 1-1. Nicole Niemi assisted the play for her first career point, while Alexis Peterson also earned an assist.
Marian then took their first lead of the series with a Jessie Meluch goal with 10:12 remaining on the clock. The goal was Meluch's first score of the season, while Emily Everson earned her third point of the series as Marian went up 2-1.
The Sabres continued to play well but a late MU penalty gave Concordia Moorhead a 6-on-4 opportunity after pulling their goalie in the final minutes. Jill Schneider was then able to take advantage of the empty net situation scoring her third goal of the season and securing the 3-1 victory.
Ali Glazer was at her best in the crease for Marian stopping a total of 30 shots and holding the Cobbers 0-3 on the power play as she improved to 2-2-0 on the year. Glazer also held the Cobbers scoreless in the second and third periods stopping a total of 25 shots between the two periods.
Marian returns home for the first time since Nov. 7 when they host Adrian for a two-game series at Blue Line Dec. 4-5.
