Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Marian University women's hockey team was able to force overtime, but a St. Scholastica goal 21 seconds into the extra period lifted CSS past Marian by a 2-1 final.
The Saints opened the scoring in the first period before Abbey Dokken netted her first career goal for the Sabres at the 8:39 mark of the third period to send the game into overtime. St. Scholastica then capitalized on a power play opportunity with their first shot in the extra period to earn the victory.
Marain was able to outshoot the Saints 29-21 for the game led by Courtney Wittig who had a game-high six shots on frame. Jessie Meluch would go 12-18 in the face off circle to lead MU.
Lindsey Strainis would get the start in the crease for the Sabres making 19 stops on the night including a perfect 18 for 18 in the second and third period.
Marian kicks off the second half of the season with a home-and-home series with UW-Stevens Point Jan. 9-10. The Sabres will host the second game of the series Sunday, Jan. 10 from Blue Line with a 2 p.m. puck drop.
