Sabres Fall to UW-La Crosse and Loras

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TUSCON, Ariz. -- The Marian University softball team struggled at the plate in day three of the Tucson Invitational as they suffered a pair of losses to UW-La Crosse and Loras,.

In game one against Eagles the Sabres scored in the top of the first to gain an early lead. Emily Gorges reached base on a fielder's choice and was driven in a Sara Terrian single.

Errors plagued the Sabres in the bottom of the first and helped the Eagles gain early control of the game.

The Eagles scored 10 runs on five hits and four errors to quickly subdue the Sabres. UW-La Crosse (6-4) tacked on five more runs to secure a 15-1 win.

In game two of the twin bill, the Sabres boldly fought against the Duhawks.

Gorges started game two in the circle against Loras and was effective.

The 5-foot-7 junior struck out two batters in the bottom of the first, but after an error extended the inning, the Duhawks were able to come away with an early one-run lead.

The Sabres (3-7) offensive attack was held to just two hits on the day.

Loras (5-6) added on three more runs, despite a well-pitched game by Gorges.

The Sabres have Monday off and return to the softball diamond on Tuesday, March 17, with games against Minnesota-Crookston and Denison.

Start times are 3:30 and 5:30 CST.
