FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Meg Hartzell was victorious in No. 1 singles and downed Concordia Wisconsin's Ashley Solberg in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 11-9. However, CUW topped Marian 7-2 Monday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action at Buttermilk Creek Park.
In doubles the No. 3 team of Kristin Houle and Samantha Smits beat CUW's (4-1) Sabine Johnson and Amanda Ropiak 9-8, 7-3.
"Meg got in a hole early but fought her way back and beat a tough opponent," MU head coach Marcus Wiegert said. "She was very consistent throughout the second set and third set tiebreaker."
The Sabres (3-2) suffered numerous near misses.
In No. 2 doubles Hartzell and Celeste Degeneffe suffered a 9-7 setback and in No. 2 singles Alissa Heid dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Hannah Tresedder.
The Sabres return to the court Wednesday and welcome Wisconsin Lutheran to Buttermilk Creek Park.
