FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Carley Schmit scored a pair of second half goals to propel the Marian women's soccer team past Ripon, 4-3, Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Smith Field.

"It was a great team effort as we came back after being down two goals," MU head coach Jillian Sauer said following the win. "We have been working on combination play along with finding feet, which was shown in our second half scoring opportunities."

With five minutes remaining in the second period of play and the game tied at 3-3, Kayla Bernardi delivered a pass within feet of the opposing goalkeeper and Schmit buried it home for the game-winning goal. Schmit also scored 10 minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to 3-2.

"Carley Schmit did a great job at crashing the back post and reading the game," added Sauer, who led the Sabres to their seventh-straight win over Ripon and Marian improves to 13-5-1 in the all-time series. "Kayla Bernardi and Alexis Peterson worked well together at creating scoring opportunities."

Peterson tied the match at 66:42. The Sabres cleared the ball to the Red Hawks (3-2-1) side of the field, however, Peterson hustled and beat the goalkeeper by a step and found an open net to tie it.

Alyssa Lennon scored the first goal of the match at 31:04, however, Ripon added two goals and Marian was down 2-1 at the break.

"As a team, we pulled together and worked hard for one another," added Sauer. "As a coach, that's all I can ask for."

Alysha Kallas had a busy night in front of the net and made a game-high 11 saves.

The Sabres (3-2) return to action Wednesday evening at Carroll (Wis.) with a 7 p.m. start.
