FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian University women's volleyball team (1-10, 0-1 NACC) fell in their conference opener to Edgewood College in straight sets 25-20, 28-26, 25-15.

The Eagles played strong at the net with 10 total blocks as they were able to defeat Marian.  The opening set was a close affair up to a 20-19 tally before the Eagles were able to rattle off six consecutive points with three kills from Jordan Winkler to take the set.  Edgewood would record a hitting percentage of .214 to open the match.

Marian was able to mount a comeback in the second set but would fall just short at the end.  The Eagles were able to keep a comfortable lead up to a 21-16 score before the Sabres used a quick 4-0 run to bring the margin to a one-point deficit.  Junior outside hitter Jessica Roberts was able to record two kills during the streak.  The play then went back and forth with the Sabres fighting off two set points before an Eagle kill and ace ended the set at 28-26.

Roberts led the way in the set with five kills, while sophomore setter Amber Baker and senior libero Katrina Jansen each had nine digs.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick 15-5 advantage in the third set, but once again Marian was able to bounce back scoring six consecutive points to cut the deficit to four points.  The quick start proved to be too much to overcome, however, as Edgewood was able to finish the match with five consecutive points.

Roberts led the attack for the Sabres with 10 kills, while Jansen recorded a match-high 18 digs.  Baker had another solid performance with a double-double of 25 assists and 15 digs to go with four kills.

Marian remains in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play when they travel to Lakeland Thursday, Sept. 17 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
