FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian women's tennis team took care of business and dominated Lakeland 8-1 Friday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action at Center Court.
"Great team effort tonight," MU head coach Marcus Wiegert said following the win. "We came out of the gates strong in doubles and had some nice performances in singles. Hopefully we can use some of this momentum heading into the weekend."
The Sabres were dynamite in doubles action and swept the Muskies. The No. 1 team consisting of Alissa Heid and Elizabeth Elrick easily won 8-1. The No. 2 team of Meg Hartzell and Celeste Degeneffe followed that up with an 8-0 romp. The No. 3 squad consisting of Samantha Smits and Kristin Houle outlasted their opponent 8-5.
In singles action the Sabres were just as dominant. In No. 1 singles Hartzell cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win. In No. 2 singles Heid won 6-0, 6-2 and No. 3 singles saw a dominant performance from Andrea Krahenbuhl, who won 6-0, 6-0.
No. 5 singles Smits cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory and in No. 6 singles Alyssa Ostrowski won in three sets: 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
The Sabres return to action Saturday, Sept. 19 with a match against NACC foe Edgewood and a non-conference tilt with Carroll.
