AURORA, Ill. – Alonso Fragoso netted his 12 goal of the season and the Marian men's soccer team tied Aurora 1-1 Friday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play at Vago Field.

Less than five minutes into the opening period Fragoso put the Sabres on board first when he drilled a shot from 25 yards out. However, in the waning moments of the first half the Spartans (3-5-1, 0-1-1 NACC) found the back of the net.

From there it was a deadlock, but each team had its chances to close out the game.

At 102:47 in the second overtime Zach Peltonen nearly scored the golden goal to end the game, but the AU goalkeeper made a difficult save.

Aurora outshot Marian 24-7 – including a 12-1 margin in the second half of regulation.

Freshman goalkeeper Ian Chacon was up for the challenge. The Cicero, Ill. native made a match-high eight saves and a pivotal stop in the final minutes of overtime to preserve the tie.

Marian (7-1-1, 1-0-1) continues its four-game road swing Wednesday, Sept. 30 at MSOE.
