Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's volleyball (3-15, 1-2 NACC) was able to sweep Beloit College in straight sets with finals of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-12. The Sabres hit .261 for the match and had six players record four or more kills in the win.
Marian opened the match with a 9-2 run and were able to hold onto this lead the remainder of the set. Amber Baker and Katrina Jansen were able to serve up an ace apiece during the streak. Hannah Buntrock led the way with three kills in the opening set, but it was the Marian defense that thrived as the Sabres held Beloit to a -.133 hitting percentage. Hunter Godfroy and Alexandra Meidl each had two block assists in the set.
The second set was a similar story as the Sabres jumped out to an 8-2 lead and cruised to another set victory. MU closed out the set scoring five of the final six points with Jessica Roberts recording three kills. The Sabres recorded 16 kills in the set to only three errors for a .500 hitting percentage led by Roberts with five kills and Godfroy with four kills.
Marian recorded another 11 kills with a .280 hitting percentage to clinch the sweep in the third set. After the Buccaneers took a slim 5-4 lead to open the set, Marian scored 17 of the next 20 points in the set to take a commanding 21-8 lead. Catelyn Brehm and Megan De Guelle combined for nine consecutive points from the service line during the run.
Godfroy would finish the match with eight kills on nine attempts for a hitting percentage of .889 to lead the Sabre offense. Roberts also added eight kills, while Buntrock recorded seven kills with a .583 hitting percentage.
Baker assisted on 26 of the 36 Sabre kills along with serving up two aces and recording a team-high nine digs.
Marian returns to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action when they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran Thursday, Oct. 1 for a 7 p.m. match.
