Box Score

FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Warren Carter and Jake Howie each had a pair of goals to lead the Marian University men's hockey team (11-5-3, 9-4-1 NCHA) to a season-high eight goals en route to the Sabres third consecutive sweep with an 8-3 win at Lake Forest.

Howie opened the scoring for the game, with an assist from Carter, 2:07 into the first period only to have the Foresters tie the game 1:43 later.  Carter then netted the lone Sabre power play goal of the game in the final minute of the opening period, assists to Howie and Devin Stuermer, to give the Sabres a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

Once again, however, the Foresters answered with their own power play goal 1:02 into the second period to bring the game back to a 2-2 tie.  Howie then broke the tie with his second goal of the game 3:19 later with an assist from Scott Milnthorp to give the Sabres the lead for good.

Marian added to their lead with a pair of goals seperated by 46 seconds, Derek Thorogood and Gianni Mangone lighting the lamp, only to have LFC score a goal in the final minute of the second to put the score at 5-3 headed to the third.

The Sabres were able to take control in the third period with three goals seperated by 3:02 in a period where Marian outshot Lake Forest 15-5.  Hunter Stewart, Carter, and Brodie Jamieson found the back of the net in the final period, respectively, to put the final at 8-3.

Mike Gudmandson improved to 3-3-0 on the year making 19 saves on the night, while Mangone recorded a team-high five shots on goal.  Howie also finished the game with three assists to go with his third multi-goal game of the season.

Marian finished the game with a 40-22 advantage in shots with a combined 35-9 advantage between the first and third period.

Marian opens a home-and-home series with MSOE at Blue Line Friday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. where MU will also be celebrating 20 years of Sabre hockey.
