Women's Ice Hockey

Pair of unassisted goals leads Marian past Scholastica

Box Score

DULUTH - Marian women's hockey (6-13-0, 3-9-0 NCHA) needed only a pair of goals to defeat St. Scholastica behind a season-high 32 saves from Ali Glazer in a 2-1 final.

Jessie Meluch opened the scoring in the first period with an unassisted goal at the 15:11 mark for her fourth goal of the season, while the second period was a defensive battle as neither team could find the back of the net.  The Sabres were able to hold a slight 23-17 edge in shots heading into the third period.

Courtney Wittig then gave the Sabres a two goal cushion at the 7:06 mark of the third period in what proved to be the game winner.  The Saints would score their only goal of the game 2:48 later with a 5-on-3 advantage after a pair of Sabre penalties, but it was all Scholastica could manage as Ali Glazer stood on her head improving to 3-4-0 on the season.

The Sabres finished the game with a 38-33 shots advantage with Wittig shooting a game-high 12 shots on goal.

Marian returns to Blue Line Saturday, Feb. 6 to conclude the season series with Concordia Wisconsin at 8 p.m.
