2nd half offensive lull dooms Marian in setback

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Marian opened up a 47-40 halftime lead, but Concordia-Chicago stifled the Sabres' offense in the second half and raced to a 88-74 win Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action played at Sadoff Gymnasium.

In the opening half MU was proficient on offense and at 10:26, Josh Creed nailed a 3-pointer to extend the Sabres advantage to 32-19, the Blue and White's largest lead of the game.

However, the Cougars turned the page in the second half.

CUC (4-7, 4-4 NACC) opened the second stanza with an 11-4 run and the game was knotted at 51-51 with 14:38 remaining.

From there the Cougars went on a 20-12 run and led 71-63 at the 5:36 mark.

Creed converted a pair of free throws with 2:18 remaining to bring the Sabres to within 76-67. However, the Cougars defense held true in the waning moments to close out the contest.

Creed and Alex Stecker each finished with 18 points, while Reggie Roemer chipped in 13 points.

Mike Walmer scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Cougars.

MU (5-8, 2-6 NACC) hosts MSOE Tuesday, Jan. 12. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
