FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian University women's soccer team received goals from five student-athletes and defeated Lakeland 5-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action Wednesday afternoon.
The Blue and White's offensive attack first broke through at 24:51 in the first half. Karissa Preston was in the right place at the right time and secured a rebound and fired it to the top left corner to give MU the lead. In the waning moments of the half Sophia Vaca scored off a rebound right in front of the goalkeeper and the Sabres went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Just a minute into the second half Heather Bunge came out the crowd in the middle of the penalty box and fired a shot near the left crossbar to extend the lead. At 50:27 Alexis Peterson netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season off a beautiful cross from Vaca.
At 76:25 Erika Priewe received a perfectly-timed entry pass from Carley Schmit and buried home a breakaway goal.
MU outshot LU (2-12-1, 1-5-0 NACC) 39-4 and owned a 25-1 advantage in the first half.
The Sabres, who are winners of two in a row, return to action Monday and play host to MSOE at 7 p.m. at Smith Field.
