Box Score LISLE, Ill. - Marian University women's volleyball (6-20, 4-6 NACC) was eliminated from NACC postseason contention after being swept on the road by Benedictine with set scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-22.
Benedictine jumped out to a small 12-10 lead to open the match before the Eagle offense took over the remainder of the set using an 11-1 run to cruise to the opening set win.
The second set proved to be all offense as the Sabres had 15 kills and a .314 hitting percentage, while Benedictine recorded 18 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. After the Sabres held a 15-14 lead in the set a 5-1 Eagle run proved to be the difference in the set as the slim three-point advantage proved to be enough for Benedictine to take the 2-0 lead.
The Sabres also held a late lead in the third set at 20-18, but a Benedictine timeout sparked a 7-2 run for the Eagles that closed out the match in straight sets.
The Marian offense finished the match with a .214 hitting percentage, third-best efficiency for the season, but the defense struggled as the Eagles hit .310 for the match.
Junior Katy Funkhouser had her third consecutive double-digit kill match with a match-high 13 kills and a .310 hitting percentage. In the back row it was freshman Jenna Skroski who set the pace with a team-high 14 digs.
Marian concludes NACC play with a noon first serve at Aurora tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 22.
