Box Score BELOIT, Wis. - Marian University women's volleyball (4-15, 2-2 NACC) nearly overcame a 2-0 deficit but a late comeback from Beloit in the fifth set led the Buccaners to a 25-18, 25-13, 21-25, 16-25, 15-13 win.
The Sabre offense struggled in the first sets recording hitting percentages of .020 and -.068, respectively, before picking up the pace to start the come back.
The third set started slow for Marian as they allowed Beloit to jump out to a 16-9 lead, but a 9-3 Sabre run kickstarted the offense and cut the Buccaneers lead to one. Marian later went on to win the set recording 15 kills, and used the big come from behind win to build momentum.
That momentum led Marian to an 18-6 lead in the fourth set, 11-3 run at the end of the streak, and cruised to the set win. The offense had their best performance in the set with another 15 kills to go with a .273 hitting percentage.
Marian continued to use their momentum to open the fifth set with a 10-4 lead, but a timeout from Beloit changed the entire set. The Buccaneers chipped away at the deficit and finished off the match with three consecutive kills to secure the win.
Junior Katy Funkhouser and senior Catelyn Brehm each had 15 kills to lead the offense, while freshman Andrea Kubicek had 28 digs in the back row followed by a 25-dig performance from senior Morgan Dercks. Brehm was also able to record her second double-double of the year with 19 digs.
Marian stays on the road in non-conference action traveling to Carroll Thursday, Oct. 6 for a 7 p.m. first serve.
