Marian swept in final tune up before return to NACC play

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Marian University women's volleyball (4-16, 2-2 NACC) was swept on the road by Carroll in non-conference action with set scores of 26-24, 25-13 and 25-19.

The Sabres trailed 16-10 to open the match but a 10-2 Marian run allowed the Sabres to take a 20-18 lead.  MU would ride this advantage out to 24-21 before the Pioneers managed to comeback scoring five consecutive points to take the first set.

The Pioneers once again jumped out to an early lead in the second set but managed to hold this lead scoring seven of the final nine points to take the two-set lead.

The third set was an offensive battle with both teams finding offensive grooves.  Marian would record 14 kills with only three errors for a .275 hitting percentage, but Carroll finished the set strong as they did in the first two closing the match with a 12-5 streak.

Senior Catelyn Brehm led the offense with seven kills and also recorded 10 digs and a solo block.  From the back row, freshman Andrea Kubicek led the way with a team-high 15 digs.

Marian returns to NACC play Saturday, Oct. 8 with a 4 p.m. first serve at Dominican.
