Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - In a game that saw a total of 10 power play goals, Marian University succumbed to a slow start falling 8-4 to No. 4 Adrian.
Adrian would score three times in a span of 5:14 in the first period, including the only two non-power play goals of the entire game The remaining nine goals would come with one team holding a man-advantage.
It only took the Sabres 22-seconds into the second period to get on the scoreboard when senior Emily Everson lit the lamp with an assist from sophomore Nicole Niemi. The goal was number three of the season for Everson. The Bulldogs answered back, however, extending their lead with five-unanswered goals spanning the end of the second period and beginning of the third.
The Sabres then played their best hockey of the evening in the final 10 minutes of the third period. Junior Paige Johnson netted her first goal of the season, assists to senior Rian Lennon and freshman Hannah Koniar, which started the strong finish for Marian. Lennon then lit the lamp 57-seconds later for her first goal of the season with assists to freshman Morgan Bolin and Johnson.
Senior Jessie Meluch closed out the scoring with just under four-minutes remaining with her first goal of the season, assist to sophomore Jill Schneider.
Marian finished the game 4-7 on the power play despite being outshot 39-23. The Sabres had a strong third period outshooting the Bulldogs 11-9.
Marian is next in action traveling to Finlandia Sunday, Nov. 13 for a 3:45 p.m. (CDT) puck drop.
