Box Score MILWAUKEE - A big second quarter from Mount Mary lifted the Blue Angels past Marian University women's basketball (0-1, 0-0 NACC) 75-61 in the season opener for both teams.
The Sabres opened the game well leading 9-8 before the Blue Angels were able to close out the first quarter strong with a 10-4 run.
Mount Mary was then able to pull away in the second quarter outscoring MU 22-8. The Blue Angels ended the quarter shooting 10-16 (.625) from the field and held Marian to a field goal percentage of 15.4-percent.
In the third quarter the Sabres fought back outscoring Mount Mary 27-17. Senior Nicole Paulus led the way for the quarter scoring 13 of her team-high 21 points. Mount Mary was able to bounce back, however, in the final quarter to set the final score at 75-61.
Marian out-rebounded the Blue Angels by a 38-34 margin but were outscored in the paint 46-30.
Freshmen Brianna Horton and Morgan Johnson each finished in double-digits for points scoring 13 and 11, respectively. Junior Brandi Bender led the way on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Marian travels to Lawrence in their next game Thursday, Nov. 17 for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
