Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (2-5-0, 2-3-0 NCHA) hung tight with Concordia College in the first period, but the Cobbers were able to pull away late in a 5-2 non-conference loss for the Sabres.
The scoring started early as Marian needed only 22 seconds to take the early lead. Sophomore Abbey Dokken lit the lamp for her second time this season with assists to sophomore Sheila Blower and senior Jessie Meluch. The Cobbers answered back, however, as they were able to knot the game up with a goal at the 56-second mark.
The period ended with each team trading power play goals as Concordia lit the lamp at the 11:33 mark and freshman Ally Fox responded with only 15 seconds left in the period to put the game at a 2-2 tie entering the first intermission. The goal was Fox's third of the season and she was assisted by sophomore Nicole Niemi.
The Cobbers would retake the lead at the 8:35 mark of the second period and tacked on a pair of power play goals in the third period, two minutes apart, to set the final score at 5-2.
The Concordia power play would go 3-7 as the Cobbers finished the game wit a 24-19 shots advantage.
Sophomore Lindsey Strainis (1-4-0) took the loss in net for Marian making 19 saves, while Meluch went 13-18 in the faceoff circle.
Marian concludes their series with Concordia tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 27, with a noon puck drop from Rink A of the Blue Line Family Ice Center.
