Box Score NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Marian University men's hockey (3-6-1, 1-5-0 NCHA) held a 3-1 lead heading into the third period but a pair of St. Olaf goals led to a 3-3 tie.
A short-handed goal from St. Olaf opened the scoring in the first period but Marian was able to control play with a 14-6 shots advantage.
The Sabres used that momentum to score three times in the second period. Sophomore Gianni Mangone opened the Marian scoring with his sixth goal of the season at the 3:37 mark, assist to junior Derek Thorogood. Junior Braden Crone then scored his third goal of the season with assists to junior Justin Cooke and junior Hunter Stewart just three minutes later.
Senior Scott Milnthorp closed out the period at the 17:24 mark lighting the lamp for the second time this season with assists to sophomore James Mathias and freshman Clay Cross.
St. Olaf would bounce back, however, controlling play in the third period outshooting the Sabres 14-4. The Oles managed to find the back of the net at the 14:07 and 17:50 marks forcing the overtime.
Neither team would manage to light the lamp in the extra period with the Sabres outshooting St. Olaf 3-1 forcing the tie.
Crone led the offense for Marian with a game-high six shots as the Sabres finished tied with St. Olaf with 31 shots apiece. Senior Mike Baldwin (2-4-1) made 28 saves in goal for MU.
Marian returns home next weekend hosting St. Scholastica Friday, December 2 with an 8 p.m. puck drop.
