Box Score OLIVET, Mich. - Marian men's volleyball (4-3, 2-1 MCVL) held Olivet to only 10 kills and a -.137 hitting percentage as the Sabres swept the Comets with set scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-12.
The match started with 10 ties leading up to a 16-16 draw in the opening set. A 9-4 Sabre run then ended the match as MU was able to force four Olivet errors during the run. Marian totaled 13 kills in the set as they hit .250 and held the Comets to a -.217 hitting percentage
The second set started similarly with Marian holding a slight 17-15 lead before a 5-0 Olivet run gave the Comets a 20-17 advantage. The Sabres bounced back to put together their own extended run as they were able to close out the set scoring eight of the final nine points in the set.
In what proved to be the final set of the night Marian came out fast scoring eight of the first 10 points. The Sabres extended the advantage out to as large as 13 at 19-6 as they were able to cruise to the 25-12 set win for their second sweep of the season.
Marian closed out with their best set of the night from an offensive stand point as they had 11 kills to only four errors for a .269 hitting percentage.
Aaron Wendels had a match-high 11 kills, while Ben Walter added eight kills to go with a .400 hitting percentage and three service aces. Tyler Barnett also had a good night from the service night with three aces. Cullen Liberski continued to play well in the back row with a match-high 14 digs.
Marian closes out the weekend at Adrian tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 13, with a scheduled 8 a.m. first serve.
