Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Marian women's hockey (7-16-0, 4-12-0 NCHA) played their final road game of the year falling to No. 3 Lake Forest by a 5-0 final.
The Foresters outshot the Sabres 27-14 in the first two periods as they went on to hold a 3-0 advantage headed into the final period. The third period MU would only be outshot 9-8 and Courtney Wittig nearly ended the shutout in the final minutes but would only find the pipe.
The Lake Forest special teams were a key factor in the game holding Marian scoreless on two power play opportunities, while going 3-6 on power play chances themselves.
Lindsey Strainis made 31 saves in goal for the Sabres, while Wittig had a team-high five shots on goal.
Marian returns home for the final weekend of the season hosting St. Norbert Feb. 19-20 with the opener at 7 p.m. and the finale at 2 p.m. Saturday's match up will also serve as senior day for the Sabres where MU will recognize the achievements of their three seniors.
