AURORA, Ill. - No. 11 Marian University men's hockey (16-5-3, 14-4-1 NCHA) used a two goal second period to defeat Aurora and push their win streak to 11 straight games.

Marian outshot Aurora 8-6 in a scoreless first period before a pair of goals seperated by only 15 seconds quickly gave MU a 2-0 lead.

Derek Thorogood netted his eighth goal of the year to open the scoring with assists to his linemates Hunter Stewart and Devin Stuermer before Warren Carter's seventh goal of the year, assists to Travis Meyer and Scott Milnthorp, gave Marian a multi-goal lead.

Stuermer added to the lead at the 12:50 mark of the third period for his 16th goal of the season with assists to Stewart and Connor Busch.  The assist from Busch also marked his first collegiate point in his career.

The Spartans would break the shutout with a power play goal with just under three minutes remaining but MU was able to hold on for the 3-1 win.

The Sabres finished with a 36-16 shots advantage with Mike Gudmandson improving to 5-3-0 on the year with 15 saves.  Jake Howie led the way offensively with a game-high five shots.

Marian closes out the regular season at homre tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20, with a 4:30 p.m. puck drop against Aurora with the Sabres honoring their three seniors prior to the game.
