Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. – Senior Emily Gorges allowed three hits and fanned 10 batters as the Marian softball team rolled past Northland 8-0 in five innings at the Finlandia Dome Tournament.
The Sabres' offense came to life in the second inning. Senior Tana Vanden Heuvel hit grand slam and the Sabres took advantage of a couple NC miscues and led 7-0.
In the third inning Lindsey Strainis singled to center field to push across a run.
Nicole LaBeck, Gabby D'Oronzo, Tiffani Castillo, Strainis, Vanden Heuvel and Gorges all collected a hit.
True freshman Olivia Hartley went 1 for 1, scored a pair of runs and walked once.
Northland (1-1) accumulated four errors.
The Sabres (1-0) are scheduled for a double-header on Saturday. MU meets Lake Superior State and Finlandia.
