FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University men's volleyball (3-3, 1-1 MCVL) had a hitting percentage of .250 as the Sabres earned their first MCVL win of the season in four sets over Wittenberg by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 19-25, and 25-14.

Both offenses started the match well with Marian hitting .259 and 13 kills, while Wittenberg hit .333 with 10 kills.  The offensive shootout led to a 19-19 tie before a Marian timeout swung the momentum towards the Sabres as MU went on a 6-2 run to close out the set.

Aaron Wendels led the way in the set hitting .444 with six kills to lead the Sabre offense.

Another strong finish from the Sabres in the second set proved to be the difference as MU opened a 2-0 lead.  Marian would hold the Tigers to a -.067 hitting percentage in the set and finished with nine of the final 11 points.  The Sabres managed three blocks and an ace to lead the charge during the extended run.

The Marian offense struggled in the third set with a -.033 hitting percentage as the Tigers were able to force a fourth set, but the Sabres bounced back in the fourth with their best offensive performance of the day recording a .464 hitting percentage.

MU closed out the match with an 11-2 run led by Wendels who recorded five kills during the stretch. Jon Smallpage also finished the set with five kills as both Wendels and Smallpage hit .714 in the final set.

Wendels recorded a match-high 15 kills but was followed closely by Smallpage who hit .542 for the match and had 14 kills.  Cullen Liberski found double-digit digs with a match-high 14, while Joey Dittman assisted 40 of the 45 MU kills.

Marian opens a five-game road stretch starting with a trip to Olivet Friday, February 12 for a 5:30 p.m. first serve.
