Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (6-14-0, 3-10-0 NCHA) held a 3-1 lead in the third period but a last minute CUW goal forced overtime where the Falcons netted the game winner in the extra period for the 4-3 win.
Marian opened the game strong with a 12-6 shots advantage but neither team could find the back of the net in the opening period.
The Falcons would get on the board first, but Jessie Meluch lit the lamp off her own rebound in the slot on a power play to even the score at 1-1. The goal was Meluch's fifth of the year and she was assisted by Emily Everson and Courtney Wittig. Paige Johnson followed that up a little over three minutes later with her first goal of the year to give MU a 2-1 lead that stood heading into the second intermission. Alexis Peterson and Sarah Bier assisted the goal to conclude the scoring in a period that saw CUW outshot MU 11-9.
Courtney Wittig netted her 13th goal of the year midway into the third period on a short handed effort that extended the Marian lead, assist to Everson. The Falcons then cut the deficit to one at the 15:41 mark, and an extra attacker goal with 40 seconds remaining sent the game into overtime. The Falcons were able to outshoot Marian 14-5 in the period.
In the extra stanza, Marian would get caught with too many on the ice and CUW took adavantage of the power play opportunity ending the game with a goal at the 2:16 mark.
Ali Glazer finished the night with 30 saves in 62:11 of action, while Everson had a game-high six shots.
Marian conlcudes the season-series with Finlandia tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 7, with a 2 p.m. puck drop from Blue Line Family Ice Center.
