Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian men's volleyball (9-14, 5-8 MCVL) closed out the inaugural season of Sabre men's volleyball with a four-set loss to No. 14 Dominican with set finals of 21-25, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-14.
The Sabres came out swinging to start the match recording 18 kills in the first set with a .238 hitting percentage. The set started with a 16-16 tie before a 6-2 run put the Sabres ahead 22-18. The Stars rallied late but the Marian defense was able to force a pair of Dominican attack errors to close out the set.
Aaron Wendels led the way in the set win with eight kills on 13 attacks.
After a similar start to the second set, Dominican was able to score seven consecutive and eventually cruise to the win to tie the match at 1-1. Dominican only played stronger as the match went on as they used long runs in both the third and fourth set to cruise to the win. The Stars would record hitting percentages of .304, .310, and .455 in the final three sets, respectively.
Wendels finished with a match-high 15 kills, while Thomas Jones recorded a match-high 13 kills and Culleen Liberski folloewd with 10 digs.
Marian finishes the first season of the program in eighth place of the MCVL after being predicted to finish 11th in the preseason poll.
