Box Score 3 MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Marian University softball team combined to score 13 runs but the Sabres struggled defensively and Wisconsin Lutheran walked away with 9-8 and 8-5 victories.
In game one the Sabres used a four-run inning to open up a 7-3 lead. However, WLC used a six-run sixth inning to take the lead.
Emily Gorges, Sara Terrian, Nicole LaBeck, Tiffani Castillo and Rachel Soch each picked up RBIs. Terrian also batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
The backend of the doubleheader ended in a similar manner. MU (20-18, 9-11 NACC) used a three-run home run in the top of the fifth to knot the game at 5-5. WLC (21-15, 10-10 NACC) responded with three run in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.
Tana Vanden Heuvel batted 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Gorges finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Gorges entered the series tied for a program-best 44 RBIs in a season and with the home run now sits in first place with 47.
The Sabres return to the diamond Saturday against Edgewood.
