Late Comeback Effort Falls Short at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Junior Nicole Wojahn and sophomore Alexis Peterson each scored goals, however, Cornell College used a fast start to upend the Marian University women's soccer team 3-2 Saturday afternoon.

Two minutes into the first half Cornell scored to take an early 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later Wojahn tallied her first goal of the season to tie the contest.

Midway through the half the Rams tallied a goal and went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

At 61:51 in the second half the Rams scored once more and went up 3-1. However, 10 minutes later Peterson, who has scored in each game this season, scored to bring the Sabres to within one.

Marian (2-1) outshot the Rams 11-8, including 8-4 in the first half.

Wojahn led the Sabres with three shots.

MU returns to the pitch tomorrow and plays at the University of Dubuque. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
