Box Score 2 LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Marian University women's volleyball (0-2, 0-0 NACC) opened the 2016 season at the Forester Invitational but were swept in straight sets by host Lake Forest and Lakeland.
Marian opened the day with host Lake Forest who defeated MU with set scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-18. The Sabres were able to hang tough against the veteran Foresters, but LFC was able to use extended runs at the end of each set for the sweep.
The Sabres finished strong in the final set with 12 kills on 36 attacks for a .194 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Alexandra Meidl led the attack for the Sabres with nine kills, while freshman Kaitlyn Kelley recorded a hitting percentage of .444. Three Sabres had double digit digs led by freshman Andrea Kubicek's 13 and she was followed by fellow freshman Jenna Skroski who added 12 digs and senior Catelyn Brehm who dug up 11.
In the second match of the day against NACC rival Lakeland, the Sabres fell by set scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-17. The Muskie front was able to hold the Sabre offense to a -.050 hitting percentage in the loss. Meidl once again led the offense for the Sabres and recorded a hitting percentage of .214.
Marian concludes the Forester Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 3, against Dubuque at 10 a.m. and Alma at noon.
