Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Wins are great, but a win over a conference opponent on homecoming makes it that much sweeter.
Junior Alonso Fragoso netted a pair of first-half goals and the Marian University men's soccer team topped Aurora 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
At 15:36 in the first half sophomore goalkeeper Ian Chacon cleared the ball deep into Aurora territory and Fragoso corralled the ball and scored on a breakaway. Just five minutes later the Spartans committed a foul inside the penalty box and Fragoso converted the penalty kick to give the Sabres a 2-0 lead.
The Spartans (3-4-1, 1-1 NACC) outshot the Sabres (4-3-0, 2-0 NACC) 20-8 – including 13-1 in the second half. Chacon was up to the challenge and finished with a game-high 10 saves.
Ramon Sutherland, Brandon Chavez and Eric Rodriguez each had scoring opportunities as well.
The Sabres, who have won three in a row and outscored their opponents 10-3, return to the pitch Wednesday and host MSOE at 7 p.m. at Smith Field.
