FOND DU LAC, Wis. - In a rematch from the season-opening tournament, Marian University women's volleyball (4-12, 2-1 NACC) defeated Lakeland in four sets with set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 16-25, and 25-21.

The opening set saw both teams get out to a slow start as both teams had neutral hitting percentages.  Marian was able to take advantage of seven Lakeland service errors, however, to take the first set.  The Sabres had led 11-9 before going on an 8-4 run that widened their margin to 19-13, which proved to be enough.

Senior Morgan Dercks anchored the back row with six digs in the set as the Sabres out-dug Lakeland 15-6.

The second set started nearly identical as Marian led 11-9 before they rattled off an 8-1 run to take a big 19-10 lead.  Lakeland was able to build momentum at the end of the set, however, using an 8-2 run to cut the lead to as small as three.  A Muskie service error would clinch the set for the Sabres, however. 

Four different Sabres recorded multiple kills in the set as Marian continued to spread out the offense. 

Lakeland took command of the third set early jumping out to a 17-7 lead as they cruised to force a fourth set.  The Muskies offense looked strong in the set recording a team hitting percentage of .259. 

Marian bounced back in the fourth using a 9-1 run after an 11-10 start to take a commanding 20-11 lead.  The Muskies wouldn't go down without a fight, though, as they were able to cut the deficit down to one at 22-21.  The Sabres were able to rebound from the run, however, as they were able to clinch the match off a kill from sophomore Alexandra Meidl.

The Marian offense had their best set in the fourth with a .167 hitting percentage led by senior Catelyn Brehm's four kills.

Sophomore Hannah Buntrock had a solid performance for Marian with five block assists to go with seven kills and a .455 hitting percentage in the win.  Brehm led the way for Marian with nine kills and 13 digs to go with a .292 hitting percentage.

Marian returns to action Friday, Sept. 30 when the Sabres host Wisconsin Lutheran with a 7 p.m. first serve.
