Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University women's hockey (7-7-1, 4-5-0) played stronger as the game went on defeating Finlandia 6-0 in NCHA action.
Freshman Hannah Koniar sent a shot from the top of the right circle at the 2:37 mark of the first period that snuck past the pads of the Finlandia goalie for her second goal of the year. Sophomores Sheila Blower and Alexis Peterson assisted the goal that opened the scoring for the night.
Similarly, freshman Morgan Bolin sat at the top of the right circle and sent a shot that went past the blocker of the Finlandia goalie to put the Sabres up 2-0 at the 6:14 mark of the second period. Bolin was unassisted on the goal, which came on the power play. Not much later, sophomore Hailey Miller lit the lamp for the seventh time this season with assists from her linemates freshman Ally Fox and senior Emily Everson to put the Sabres up 3-0.
Everson then scored twice to open the scoring for the third period, her seventh and eighth goals of the season. Her first came at the 5:02 mark with an assist to junior Ellie Deans and the second was at the 15:30 mark with assists to Miller and senior Rian Lennon.
Peterson closed out the scoring skating in from the right circle sending one past the blocker of the Lion goalie on the power play with an assist to Lennon to set the final at 6-0.
The Sabres finished with a 43-26 shot advantage and especially dominated the third period outshooting the Lions 15-3.
Sohpomore Lindsey Strainis (6-5-1) stopped all 26 shots she saw for her third shutout of the season.
Marian closes out the season series with Finlandia tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 15, with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
